The HC300Z uses a renowned high quality high  definition 2/3 inch 1.4 million pixel CCD.  The CCD uses square pixels, which is a  departure from the normal CCD chip used in video cameras. 
Video cameras use  rectangular pixel CCD chips, so that when an image is scanned into a computer with a  square pixel display, the hight and width of the image appear incorrect and must be  adjusted with image processing software. However, with a square pixel CCD, you get  beautiful images with no size distortion. 
Also, by using an advanced primary RGB  color filter rather than the normal complimentary color filter, you can accurately  reproduce the colors of the sample.
